Relationship Issues

Relationships are ever changing and never stay the same.  Relationships can often be the litmus test to gauge a person’s sense of well being.  Difficulty in relationship is one of the most common reasons people seek professional help.  As a therapist, I often explore the relationships a person has with his or her family of origin.  The initial relationships one experienced is where the person first learned to navigate this world with other people.  We would explore patterns of behavior in relationship, as well as the most significant influences in a person’s life.  This can help the client identify choices available in relationships, as well as bring light to future relationships.

Twin relationships

Are unique due to the intimacy of being known and understood by another person from the beginning of life.  Having a soul-mate from the beginning of life can profoundly influence a person’s perception.  This can sometimes complicate other intimate relationships, but can also enhance one’s ability to bond with others.  Twin relationships can fall anywhere on a continuum of being completely enmeshed to total estrangement.  As an identical twin, I can empathize with the nuances of the unique relational difficulties that twins may need to navigate.

Depression

Is a silent thief.  It has a covert operation of taking away a person’s sense of self.  A person might feel as if the best part of oneself is slipping away.  Activities that once were enjoyable, can feel as if they require too much energy for the benefits.  This might contribute to a sense of downward spiral because a person lacking energy withdraws from social interactions, which then contributes to loneliness.  Often a person experiencing depression feels a sense of hopelessness.  Depression can manifest itself physically, mentally and emotionally, and may last for a few days to even months.  There are many effective resources available in helping one overcome depression.  The most difficult step in the recovery process often is picking up the telephone to seek professional help.  It is my strongest hope that a person find the help to deal with this difficulty and not suffer alone.

As a therapist I work with clients to assess depression from a physical, mental, emotional and relational perspective.  When a client gains new understanding of his or her depression, he or she is then empowered to utilize effective strategies sooner in the onset of depressive episodes.

Survivors of Abuse

Often feel alone and isolated in their experience.  Although each has a unique experience and story, research and statistics show many commonalities in the families and experiences of trauma survivors.  In every case the survivor experienced a sense of powerlessness, and regardless of the type of abuse experiences emotional assault.  This strong sense of injustice needs to be addressed for each client.  When survivors are given the opportunity to talk about their abuse in a safe environment, to let go of confusing feelings of shame, guilt and self-blame, they have every chance of healing and recapturing the best parts of themselves.  It is a privilege as a therapist to watch the beauty of each person’s spirit emerge and productively impact one’s world in the healing process.

Fees:  Initial consultation free.  Individual sessions are $60.00, with a sliding fee for special circumstances.
