Safe *** Confidential *** Strength-based Counseling
Thank you for joining me on this page. I know looking for a counselor can be a daunting task. It may feel very unsettling to think of talking about yourself and your personal situations with a stranger! For this reason, I give the first consultation free. It is a time of meeting each other, discussing what therapy sessions may be like and seeing if we are comfortable to proceed with a plan. My FAQ’s page may answer some of your questions, or you may feel free to contact me at peggy@peggynydahl.com. The torch is a symbol of many aspects of the counseling relationship. For me it is a symbol of light to guide a path. It is also a symbol of strength, and movement towards a goal. Often times I might “bear a torch” for one of my clients, but the intended goal is always to pass the torch for the client to bear with her new understanding and strengths as she moves forward in life. Safe * Confidential * Strength-based Counseling Safe—means the client is respected at all times. The client’s needs for privacy are respected, and the client’s request to leave certain subjects alone is respected. Safe also means you have rights as a client and those rights are given to you in written form at our first meeting. I am bound by the professional ethics of The Oregon Board of Licensed and Professional Counselors, and you will be given their contact information if you ever feel your rights as a client have been breached. Confidential—means what is said in my office stays in my office. Clients are not discussed outside of my office. My supervisor, you and I are the only ones who will know you are my client, unless you choose to tell someone. The exceptions to this confidentiality are mandated by Oregon law, and these exceptions are spelled out clearly at the beginning of our time together and given to you in written form. Strength-based Counseling—means counseling is all about looking at your strengths. I am not looking so much at what you think is wrong, but my purpose is to find the things that you are doing right, and use those for our building blocks to construct change. I often listen to a person’s story and imagine a box of legos. I am looking for pieces, with the help of the client, to find useful and meaningful elements on which to build. I am always amazed at the hidden strengths that are unique to each and every client.
